Former Maharashtra ATS chief Himanshu Roy commits suicide by shooting himself

Former ATS chief of Maharashtra, Himanshu Roy shot himself dead by his service revolver at his residence today at around 1:40 pm.

Former Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief, Maharashtra, Himanshu Roy shot himself dead by his service revolver at his residence (at Malabar Hill) today at around 1:40 pm. Roy, who was the Additional Divisional Commissioner (establishment), was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Roy, who had a successful career and was an IPS officer from 1988 batch, was suffering from bone marrow cancer. However, the exact reason of the suicide remains unknown. Roy was the joint commissioner from 2010 to 2014 who had investigated the IPL betting scandal and several other high profile cases and scams.

Roy  was one of the most distinguished cops who was the first to set up Mumbai’s Cyber Crime Cell.
