In a major breakthrough, ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) has given its nod to Thiruvananthapuram based-institure in Kerala – Shree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) – to try Convalescent Plasma Therapy to treat COVID-19 patients.

Convalescent Plasma Therapy aims at using the immune power gained by a recovered person to treat a sick person. The therapy, like blood transfusion, harvests the antibody from a recovered patient and ingests it into a sick person, by which, the immunity system mounts robust combat on the virus.

In an article posted on April 10, Nation Next had also explored the possibility of use of Convalescent Plasma Therapy to treat COVID-19 patients.

SCTIMST in Trivandrum, is recognised as an institution of national importance under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
