Influenced by crime shows on television, Nagpur woman hired a 27-year-old youngster for Rs 50,000 to kidnap her 12-year-old nephew.

A resident of Butibori, Sarika Dinesh Bhagat (36), with the help of the man Gangaprasad Yerne kidnapped her nephew from outside his school on Wednesday afternoon and later took him to Shegaon.

The incident came to fore after the boy’s parents lodged a complaint at Butibori police station. The police then checked all the required CCTV footages near the vicinity and found Yerne’s behaviour to be suspicious. The cops even quizzed Sarika and asked her to call up Yerne and release the boy. He immediately released the boy and dropped him at Wardha and fled away. Later the boy boarded a bus to Butibori and reunited with his parents.

Speaking to Nation Next, ASI Munna Singh said, “We are still uncertain about the reason as to why the woman kidnapped her nephew. However, our team has gone to Akola for further investigation with the woman and we’ll ensure we find out the reason today itself.”
