Indian-origin wrestler Jinder Mahal on Sunday at WWE’s pay-per-view Backlash defeated wrestler Randy Orton to become the new WWE champion. Jinder Mahal, who’s now a Canadian national, is the second Indian-wrestler after The Great Khali to win a major WWE title. Khali had won the now defunct World Heavyweight Championship in 2007.

Randy Orton had won the championship for the ninth time at Wrestlemania 33 earlier this year in April by defeating Bray Wyatt. His defense against Mahal was his first defense after winning the championship.
