Ranjit Chowdhary, who played the role of ‘Jagan Gupta’ in classic movie Khubsoorat that starred Rekha in the lead, passed away on Wednesday.

Ranjit Chowdhary, who played the role of ‘Jagan Gupta’ in classic movie Khubsoorat that starred Rekha in the lead, passed away on Wednesday. Chowdhary, who was 65, was a film, television and a theatre personality. In his four-decade-long professional career, Chowdhary worked in prominent films including Bandit Queen, Baton Baton Mein, Khubsoorat, Mississippi Masala, Lonely in America, and several Hollywood movies.

Ranjit was the son of Mumbai theatre actor Pearl Padamsee and the stepson of ad film maverick Alyque Padamsee who was greatly remembered for playing MA Jinnah in Ben Kingsley’s Gandhi.

Reportedly he was suffering from an ailment for several months and was even admitted in a hospital for surgery but didn’t survive the procedure.
