Liquor over Rs 100 crore sold in Uttar Pradesh within 9 hours on day one….
Alcohol over Rs 100 crore was sold in Uttar Pradesh within nine hours after liquor shops were permitted to open on Monday. The liquor shops were permitted to remain open from 9 am to 6 pm. Such was the sale that several shop owners had to even shut their shops as they ran out of alcohol on the first day.
While the daily sale in the state is usually about Rs 70-80 crore, the business on Monday skyrocketed as people made a beeline outside liquor shops in COVID-19 lockdown to hoard as much liquor as possible. The sale of liquor in state capital Lucknow was recorded at Rs 6.3 crore.
However, the government has now put a cap on the sale of liquor for first two to three days. One person will not be allowed to purchase more than one bottle (750 ml), or two halves (375 ml each), or three quarters (180 ml each), or two bottles of beer or three cans.
