Cabinet Minister of Finance & Planning and Forests departments in Maharashtra Sudhir Mungantiwar, through his lawyers Kartik Shukul (assisted by Rohan Joshi) today filed a defamation suit against Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam.

Nirupam, on November 10, had held a press conference vis-à-vis the shooting of the tigress T1 ‘Avni’ in the Pandarkawda area of Maharashta, wherein he’d made several allegations against Mungantiwar.

He stated in the conference that Mungantiwar was a part of the illegal international syndicates that is involved in wildlife trade. He further stated that the minister had a dubious record of saving the forest, and there has been a lot of destruction in the forests of Maharashtra under his regime. In the conference that lasted for almost an hour, actress Rupali Ganguly also made several allegations against the minister’s department, along with Nirupam.

The BJP minister gave a brief narration of the conference in the court and specifically referred to the allegations pertaining to the syndicate. The JMFC (Judicial Magistrate Fast-track Court) after hearing the parties, had closed it for orders and listed it for tomorrow. If process is issued in the complaint, Nirupam would have to appear before the court and seek bail.
