Man booked for giving triple talaq to wife over dispute on buying diapers for son

A 30-year-old man from Mumbai has been booked by the police for allegedly giving triple talaq to his 28-year-old wife over a trivial dispute about purchasing diapers for their two-year-old son.

The couple reportedly had a heated argument on May 18 when the woman asked the man to buy diapers for their son from a nearby shop. A police official from Nagpada police station, South Mumbai, said that after the arguement the man had allegedly divorced her by saying talaq three times ‘in a fit of rage’. The woman later filed a complaint with the police.

While the man could not be arrested because of the lockdown, Nagpada Police have booked the man under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.

The woman, who originally hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Muradabad district, got married to the man in 2015. As per reports, the woman had in past filed a complaint against her husband for cruelty.
