In a freak accident in Delhi, after a 34-year-old man shot himself in the ear on May 22, the bullet he shot tore through his head and hit his seven months pregnant wife in the neck. While the man is critical and unconscious, the woman is said to be safe. The couple is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in the capital.
The incident is said to have taken place after the couple had an arguement. The man, who has been unemployed for a while now, was about to take his wife to the hospital for a rountine check up with the arguement took place. The couple, who hail from Faridabad, had currently moved to a rented accommodation in Gurugram’s Rampura area five months ago.
Deputy police commissioner, Deepak Saharan said that the couple had gotten into an argument because the man wanted to drop his wife at her parents’ house after the check-up, while she wanted to stay with him. Infuriated by the argument, the man parked the SUV and took out his pistol to shoot himself. The police are now checking whether the man has licence for the gun.
A passer-by noticed the couple bleeding inside the car and informed the police, who rushed them to Gurugram’s civil hospital before they were referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Police cited the woman’s statement and said they have registered a case against the man under section 309 (attempt to suicide) of the IPC and under the Arms Act at Kherki Daula police station.
