Nagpur Mayor Nanda Jichkar claimed that the problem of contaminated water had been fixed after residents of her constituency (Prabhag no. 37) complained of the same. Hundreds of residents of Pratap Nagar, Khamla, Pande Layout, etc were receiving drinking water mixed with sewage water since 15 days in the month of March. Despite repeated complains to the NMC and Orange City Water Works (OCW), the residents claimed that no action was being taken for weeks.

Subsequently, the OCW provided three tankers to supply drinking water in affected areas till the time the problem was fixed.

As per a doctor in Khamla, several people including children and senior citizens had fallen sick after suffering from jaundice, other waterborne diseases and even dehydration. Residents complained that they were getting stinking, red coloured water from the tap. As a result, they had to buy expensive mineral water cans for weeks altogether.

When Nation Next spoke to Jichkar about the problems faced by the residents, she said, “Yes, the residents did receive drinking water mixed with sewage water, but now our engineers have fixed the problem.”
