In a bizarre incident, a 12-year-old girl from Kamptee in Nagpur district, on Friday (August 31) faked her own kidnapping to avoid being scolded by her parents.

As per the statement given by the girl to the police, on August 31, the minor girl went to her aunt’s place with her grandmother. While returning back alone to her home (between 2 pm to 3 pm), near Dragon Temple, three unidentified men on a bike, abducted the girl and made her sit on the bike. In the process, the girl’s clothes were torn.

When the men and the girl reached Ajni Railway crossing road, they had to stop because a train was passing by and that’s when the girl escaped. The men followed her but the girl somehow reached her home. A complaint was later filed by the girl’s mother at New Kamptee Police station and the unidentified men were booked under sections 363 and 511 of the IPC.

Taking into consideration the seriousness of the case, an investigation was started immediately by the cops. When the cops scanned the CCTV footage of the said spot (near Dragon Temple) as per the time described by the girl, they could not see any such incident taking place in the footage. The cops then took the minor girl in confidence, showed her the CCTV footage and questioned her again. It was during the questioning that the girl revealed that her story was in fact untrue.

The girl revealed that, on the said day, she had skipped her tuition and gone to her friend’s house. Near the friend’s house, a boy picked up a fight with her due to an old quarrel between them. During the fight the minor girl’s clothes were torn. The girl thought that if her mother gets to know about the incident, she would scold her for not going to the tuition, for fighting with the boy and would fight with the boy’s parents. So, instead of going home, the girl followed her grandmother to her aunt’s place.

Thinking that her grandmother would scold her as well for following her, she started heading towards home. It was on her way back that the girl came across her mother’s friend, who inquired about the torn clothes. The girl panicked and then cooked up the entire story of kidnapping. The police, however, was able to find the truth in less than 72 hours.
