Time and time again, Indian women have made India proud by winning titles at international beauty pageants because of their infectious charm and flawless beauty. One such Indian girl has not only made India proud recently but has also brought immense joy to Nagpur. It was just yesterday that Nagpur girl Lopamudra Raut graduated in Electronic Engineering from G H Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur. Lopamudra has now become a household name and a fashion-icon not just in her city but globally. She brought laurels to India and especially Nagpur recently when she was crowned as the 2nd runner-up in the beauty pageant Miss United Continents 2016 at Ecuador.

To honour and acknowledge her achievements, a ‘Homecoming Ceremony’ was organised by G H Raisoni College of Engineering (GHRCE), Nagpur recently. As Lopamudra entered the college premises, she was greeted with a warm hug and a big smile by the Director of GHRCE, Dr Preeti Bajaj. The students of the college who were anxiously waiting for her, screamed in excitement as Lopamudra smiles and waved back at them.

Students of GHRCE welcomed the beauty queen by presenting a beautiful and thoughtful play depicting Lopamudra’s days in the college when she was struggling to pass her engineering exams and finally, how she overcame all her obstacles, ultimately becoming the queen of hearts by representing India on an international podium! The students brought their best in front of the beauty queen as they gave fantastic performances one after another. Lopamudra reciprocated their love when she displayed her ‘talent’ and floored the audience by singing the song ‘Lag jaa gale’ from the 1964 movie Woh Kaun Thi. She even shook a leg with one of the performers on ‘London thumakda!’

Lopamudra in her speech post the performances spoke about her journey from a ‘college student’ to a ‘beauty queen’ and also gave a strong message to the students present. She stressed upon the importance of education and said that education should be valued because not everybody gets the opportunity to study.

Dr Preeti Bajaj was so overwhelmed by alumni Lopamudra’s achievements that she couldn’t stop praising her. Bajaj later felicitated Lopamudra with a sash and special bouquet of roses. This bouquet consisted of roses in an interesting arrangement as one could read the name ‘Lopa’ made up by roses! Students too were excited to have their ‘senior’ amongst themselves and left no opportunity to click selfies with the beauty queen.

Team Nation Next extends its gratitude to Lopamudra for making Nagpur proud and congratulates her for achievements and also wishes her luck for the near future. More power to you Lopa!
