Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jayant Patil recently during the Maharashtra assembly had said that absconding businessman Vijay Mallya had given a donation of Rs 35 crores to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on November 8, 2016 by cheque. He also said that the cheque was drawn at Axis Bank.

While Patil demanded an immediate inquiry into the matter, BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar objected to these allegations and counter-alleged that in fact, Mallya had provided helicopters for a wedding to a senior NCP leader in 1987. MLA from Nagpur Sudhakar Deshmukh, who was the in the Speaker’s chair said that a decision would soon be taken on.

Patil also asked the Shiv Sena why it wasn’t getting such ‘donations’ despite being a part of the coalition government.
