Earlier in the month of March this year, the Indian Railways had announced its decision to allow passengers to ‘transfer their confirmed ticket to somebody else in case one is unable to travel. According to a report in Business Today, Indian Railways in a statement said, “Chief Reservation Supervisor of important stations are authorised by Railway Administration to permit the change of name of a passenger having a seat or berth reserved in his name.”
According to the guidelines mentioned by Indian Railways, a person can transfer his/her confirmed ticket to any another family member (father, mother, sibling, children or spouse). A written request before 24 hours of departure has to be made by the person who wants to transfer his ticket.
A student from a recognised educational institution can also transfer his/her ticket by getting the written approval and request from the head of the institution.
