A school-bus driver from Madhya Pradesh who had taken his wife, three kids, brother-in-law and a few other relatives for a picnic, lost his life while battling Kolar Dam floodwaters in a heroic effort to save his three sons from drowning.
On Tuesday evening, 35-year-old Rizwan Khan, resident of Garm Gadda Bajaria in Bhopal, had taken his extended family near Kolar Dam in Borda Goat Vilage in Madhya Pradesh for an outing at popular picnic spot Baba Jhiri.
According to reports, Rizwan and his family were sitting on a rock and playing in the rivulet waters at Baba Jhiri behind Kerwa Hill when the water level started rising suddenly in the midst of a fresh downpour of rain.
It had already been raining heavily throughout the season and the fresh burst of rain probably compelled the authorities to release water from the Kerwa Dam, leading to the rise in the level of water in the rivulet where Rizwan and his family were picnicking.
Startled by the rise in waters, Rizwan quickly took his wife and kids across to the land even as the floodwaters were rising rapidly. Unfortunately, as he rescued the last child, his leg got caught in a rock and he was swept away by the raging waters.
His relatives rushed to get help and he villagers responded immediately however, the incessant rain and raging river hampered the rescue. The Police too came to help, but could not do so. Rizwan’s body was found around 7pm.
