Recently appointed Leader of Opposition (LoP) from Congress in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar accused business tycoon Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio of cheating the Maharashtra government to the tune of Rs 4500 crore. He said that the government should recover the huge sum from the businessman.

Wadettiwar claimed that three years back, Ambani-led Jio sold mobile handsets to its customers by taking a refundable deposit amount for the same. The telecom company had claimed to refund the amount to its customers after three years. When no amount was refunded, Wadettiwar accused the company of cheating.

When we spoke to Wadettiwar, he said, Jio had taken Rs 1500 each from its 3 crore customer as the refundable deposit. It never returned the money. If Jio sold the handsets without the refundable amount, it would have to pay 12.5% GST to the government.”

Wadettiwar, who’s at present the MLA of Brahmapuri, said the same during a discussion on budget during the on-going monsoon session at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday.
