N Kumar group owned entity Indo Pacific Projects Limited has blamed Nagpur Metro for the Poonam Mall wall collapse incident, which took place on Friday past midnight and claimed the life of a watchman. Rajendra Dhote, a representative from Indo Pacific Projects Limited, which owns the mall, urged Lakadganj Police in a letter on Saturday to take action against Nagpur Metro.

The letter written by Rajendra Dhote to Lakadganj Police Station.

Dhote explained in the letter as to how Nagpur Metro was responsible for the unfortunate incident and it was wrong to blame the company for the same. He called allegations of carelessness against the company baseless and said that the mall building was always well maintained.

Dhote has claimed in the letter that the Poonam Mall building was weakened because of ongoing construction work of Nagpur Metro Station just besides the mall. Dhote said that for the construction of the station, Nagpur Metro had dug up a 80×50 m hole, which was 15 feet deep. Black crushed stone is being used by Nagpur Metro for construction. Since it rained heavily this year, the water mixed with the stone in the huge hole dug by Nagpur Metro weakened the foundation of the adjacent Poonam Mall.

Meanwhile, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) declared the mall to be unsafe for people and hence it has ordered owner to demolish the same within 24 hours.
