Nagpur: Cops raid gambling den; detain BJP corporator, 7 others

Nagpur Crime Branch, on the night of June 16, raided a gambling den at a bungalow in Atre Layout and arrested eight people, including a three-time BJP corporator Praveen Bhisikar (40) and Assistant Superintendent of Daga Hospital Sanjay Kurade (54). During the raid, cops seized Rs 10,200, mobile phones and gambling material worth Rs 60,000 and three four-wheelers and two-wheelers collectively worth Rs 19 lakh.

The rest of the six men have been identified as: Narendra Venkatrao Meshram (46), Pravin Manohar Parate (33), Suresh Mahadeorao Bhoyar (54), Nilesh Keshav Mohadikar (34), Ramesh Ruplal Jadhav (54) and Gyanrao Natthuji Dharmik (42).

The Crime Branch conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off that a gambling den was being operated at Sanjay Latkar’s bungalow in Atrey Layout. The accused were booked and detained under Section 4, 5 of Gambling Act. They later got bail from the district court.

The raid was conducted by Senior PI Vinod Chaudhary, API Pankaj Ghadge, ASI Rafiq Khan, constables Prashant Lade, Anil Dubey, Shailesh Patil, Arun Dharme, NPCs Shyam Kadu, Amit Patre, Pravin Gorte, and drivers Mohd Sharif and Raju Potdar under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nilesh Bharne, DCP (Detection) Gajanan Rajmane and ACPs Sudhir Nandanwar and Kishore Jadhav.
