Nagpur’s Rana Pratap Nagar Police have arrested a 40-year-old man, who, under the influence of alcohol, set a police chowky in Khamla on fire in the wee hours of Wednesday. The man has been identified as Shankar Kantode.

As per the cops, Kantode, who himself is a resident of Khamla, in order to keep himself warm, gathered some trash and set it on fire. The flames of the bonfire then spread and a nearby tree caught fire. The fire further spread to the police chowky and plywood attached to the chowky’s window caught fire.

A bike-borne police constable, who was on patrolling, after noticing the fire reached the spot with his colleagues and some local residents, who brought the fire under control.

The police have arrested Kantode and booked him under section 435 of the IPC.
