Youngsters from the Nagpur NGO Twinkle Foundation, on August 14, rescued a 12-year-old girl who was married off by her mother to a 28-year-old man two years back for Rs 1500. The girl, Sonali, was found begging on the street by the members of NGO.

Barkha Patnaik, CEO of Twinkle Foundation, told Nation Next, “We were roaming near Santra Market when we came across Sonali, who was begging and seemed to be dressed in an attire of a married woman. Sensing that something was fishy, we started talking to her. It was during our conversation with her that we got to know that she was married off by her mother to the 28-year-old man from Nagpur for Rs 1500. The man then left her after a year. The girl’s family basically hails from Orissa. The girl, after the man left her, started begging in Nagpur along with her mother.”
