With an intention to help citizens in a timely manner and reduce the response time, Nagpur Police, on Saturday, launched the – Raksha app – for citizens. The application was launched by ACP Sanjeev Kamble and Amit Singh (Director, Modern VR Security Force India Private Limited). Also present during the launch were Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham and Joint CP Shivajirao Bodkhe.

After downloading the app, if a citizen presses help button on the app, a message will immediately be received by nearby beat marshals or control room vehicle (CR Mobile). On receiving the message, the details of the citizen will be available to the beat marshals or CR Mobile and help will be on the way using the citizen’s location. On clicking the SOS button, an audio/video will also be transmitted to the police, which would be saved for futher action. Additonally, on the basis of the information, a cop on the way to help can also call for additional force by pressing the ‘reimbursement’ button on the app. The app also allows the citizens to report crime through messages and pictures without revealing their identity.

Dr K Venkatesham informed that around 120 smartphones and 30 tablets have already been given to beat marshals and CR Mobile units respectively for the efficient use of the app and helping the citizens. Citizens can download the app from the play store by simply searching for ‘Raksha Nagpur Police.’
