Nagpur Police invokes MCOCA against gangster Sumeet Thakur and 12 members of his gang

Nagpur police, on Saturday, invoked Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime (MCOCA) Act against gangster Sumeet Thakur and 12 other members of his gang.

Sumeet Thakur and his gang members were involved in an attack on Kuldeep alias Pinnu Shashidhar Pandey (27), a resident of Ahbab Square, Nagpur. On June 26, 2018, with an intention to take revenge over an old dispute, Pandey was shot by two unidentified assailants. While Pandey survived, he was seriously injured as the bullet pierced through his right leg.  

Gittikhadan Police had then registered a case and booked the accused under sections 307, 143, 147, 148, 120 (b) and 109 of the IPC and sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act and section 135 of MCOCA (Amendment Act).

Sumeet Thakur was arrested by Gittikhadan Police on August 3 from his girl friend’s house. Two other members: Ujjair alias Ujji Parvez Abdul Khalid (30), a resident of Bhupesh Nagar, Nagpur, and Piyush Gajanan Wankhede (22), a resident of Surendra Gad, Nagpur, are also in police custody along with Thakur. During the investigation, the police recovered two pistols, a magazine, three mobile phones and a two-wheeler from the three accused.

Apart from Thakur, Ujji and Wankhede, 10 others who have been booked under MCOCA include:

→ Mohammad Irfan alias Bandukiya Sami Siddiqui (37), a resident of Jafar Nagar

→ Suryaprakash alias Pinku Hariprasad Tiwari (30), a resident of Surendra Gad

→ Manoj alias Monya Prakash Shinde (32), a resident of Barde layout

→ Vinay alias Lala Rajendraprasad Pandey (30), a resident of Anant Nagar

→ Junaid alias Zeeshan Gulsher Khan (26), a resident of Mahesh Nagar

→ Amit alias Anna Narendra Kumar Swami (25), a resident of Vinobha Bhave Nagar

→ Wajul alias Sam Bisht (40), a resident of Gittikhadan

→ Sayyed Shahnawaz Ali alias Sayyed Zakir Ali (22), a resident of Vinobha Bhave Nagar

→ Nilesh Ashok Ukey (27), a resident of Ravi Nagar

→ Nagpur Police has launched a massive manhunt to arrest these ten accused.
