Crime branch of Nagpur Police arrested underworld gangster Santosh Ambekar for threatening a businessman from Gujarat Jigar Patel for rupees five crore in connection with Rs 10 crore property deal in Mumbai. Ambekar, against whom Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was invoked four times, was taken to the magistrate court on foot on Saturday afternoon at Akashwani Square in Civil Lines. The car that was supposed to take the gangster to the court broke down hence the latter walked his way along with he crime branch officials.
Income Tax officials along with crime branch team conducted search operations at the residence of Ambekar, who was said to be an aspirant of assembly ticket from Central Nagpur. It has been said that a huge amount of silver and gold was found during the search operations at Ambekar’s residence.
The magistrate court granted a five-day Police Custody Remand (PCR) to Ambekar, who was seen walking barefoot towards the court. Commissioner of Police Nagpur Dr BK Upadhyay, Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam and DCP Gajanan Rajmane supervised the operation.
The crime branch registered a case of cheating, extortion against Ambekar at Sitabuldi Police Station, where he was interrogated for hours.
