On Saturday (May 19, 2018), Nagpur, with a maximum temperature of 46.2° C, became the third hottest city in the world. While Chandrapur was the hottest city in the world with 47.8° C, Brahmapuri stood second with a scorching temperature of 47.1° C. As per weather forecasts, heat wave conditions would continue for next 24 hours though Nagpurians in some parts may have a respite.
Nation Next spoke to few Nagpurians about how they’ve been grappling with the scorching heat of late. Rahul Gupta, businessman, said, “I’m so shocked to know this fact. It gets unbearable for me to work even in an air-conditioned room in my office in a temperature like 46° C!”
Rahul, whose factory is situated in MIDC Hingna area, further said, “It’s a task for me to somehow work till three and four in the afternoon! My workers and staff in the factory also have a tough time working. It’s difficult to drive home back all the way from my factory to home, it’s that physically draining and mentally exhausting.”
Abhishek Dhawad, entrepreneur, said, “Considering the fact is true, some of it can be attributed to global warming. Sunstroke cases are on the rise and one only has to refrain from stepping outside. In a lot of areas, people are shutting their shops for the afternoon. This just shows that the heat isn’t just affecting the personal lives of the people but also their businesses.”
