A Nagpur woman, who was befriended by a man on social media was not only allegedly raped by the man and his brother but was also tortured and forced by his parents, including the man’s mother and sister-in-law, to marry him.

As per the police, between August 13, 2019, and September 21, 2019, the man Mukesh Raut befriended Sujata (name changed) on social media and started talking regularly to her. Mukesh then invited Sujata on the pretext of celebrating his birthday at a house in Tukdoji Nagar in Nagpur and raped her. Some time later, Mukesh’s younger brother also raped Sujata and took obscene pictures of her on his mobile phone.

In the evening, Mukesh’s sister-in-law called Sujata on her mobile phone and asked her to come to the family’s house in Tukdoji Nagar. Mukesh’s sister-in-law, his elder brother, his father and mother then threatned Sujata and asked her to marry Mukesh. Sujata was told that if she did not agree to marry Mukesh, the family will sell her off. When Sujata declined, she was taken in a room by Mukesh and raped again. Mukesh’s elder brother also molested Sujata.

Some days later, Mukesh called Sujata at a hotel promising to delete the obscene pictures of her on his mobile phone. At the hotel, Sujata was threatened by Mukesh with a knife and then raped.

On the basis on a complaint filed by Sujata, Pratap Nagar Police have booked Mukesh and his family members under sections 376 (1), 354 (D), 342, 506 (B), 506, 323 and 34 of the IPC and section 135 of the Bombay Police Act.
