Nation Next came across an old interview of former finance minister P Chidambaram on one of the groups on Facebook where he’s seen telling he’s never taken or accepted one rupee bribe in his entire political career.
The senior Congress leader, who’s currently in CBI custody in the INX Media bribe case said, “In my entire political career, never once has anyone offered me or I’ve accepted one rupee in way of illegal gratification. Have never been asked by any prime ministers or any party leaders to do anything that is either illegal or unethical. I’ve never been asked to collect money for the party; I’ve never done that.”
Chidambaram is accused of helping INX Media founders evade justice after they violated foreign investment laws when he was the union finance minister. In 2007, the INX media allegedly received foreign funding of Rs 305 crore even as they had permission to source only Rs 4.62 crore in the form of shares.
When the financial intelligence unit knocked on the door in 2008, the INX Media founders allegedly employed a firm owned by the minister’s son Karti to sort out the matter.
