A video on Facebook about a newborn girl walking moments after her birth has gone viral. The 41-seconds video, which was uploaded by Arlete Arantes from Brazil on May 26, has been viewed more than 70 million times, shared over 1.5 million times and has garnered more than 3.25 lakh reactions. The video clip shows the little girl walking trying to walk on her own as the doctor holds her by the arm.
While many Internet users have called it a miracle, University of Rochester Medical Centre has said that it’s not a miracle at all and in fact is a normal natural newborn reflex. Called the ‘stepping reflex,’ this reflex is also referred to as the walking or dance reflex because the baby appears to take steps or dance when held upright with his or her feet touching a solid surface. This type of reflex is said to last for two months, which eventually helps the baby to develop and survive.
