Nirbhaya’s parents, on Thursday, approached the Patiala Court House with a request to expedite the procedure of hanging of the convicts in the 2012 gang rape case. The hearing on the plea will be held in Patiala Court House on March 2. Nirbhaya, a 23-year-old paramedic student, was gang raped and brutally murdered in December 2012 in New Delhi.

The Supreme Court, in July 2018, confirmed that the four convicts Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Kumar Singh will be hanged. The apex court even turned down a petition by the convicts to turn their death sentence into a life term. Out of the two other convicts associated with the case, Ram Singh had hanged himself in jail, while a juvenile was given a maximum sentence of three years imprisonment in a reform facility.
