Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her fifth press conference regarding economic stimulus package, on May 17, slammed Congress particularly Rahul Gandhi for playing politics over migrant labourers. Sitharaman called Gandhi’s recent meeting with labourers as ‘dramabaazi.’
On May 16 (Saturday), Gandhi was seen interacting with labourers near the Sukhdev Vihar flyover on Mathura Road in Delhi. Gandhi had reportedly spent around 15-20 minutes with the labourers before leaving the place. Gandhi had earlier asked PM Modi to reconsider the Rs 20 lakh crore economic package and asked the prime minister to deposit money directly in the bank accounts of the needy.
“Instead of wasting time of migrants and sitting with them, walk along with them and carry their suitcase. Congress-ruled states request more trains for stranded migrant workers to reach home. They call us ‘dramebaaz.’ What about yesterday? That is dramabaazi,” said Sitharaman.
“I want to tell the Opposition party that on the issue of migrants, we all must work together. We are working with all states on this issue. With folded hands, I ask Sonia Gandhi ji that we must speak & deal with our migrants more responsibly,” Sitharaman added.
