Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Laxmi Nagar Zone, on Tuesday, attached the property of Central Mall to recover pending property tax dues of Rs 9.89 crore, which is to be paid by the mall’s developer N Kumar.
As per a media report, N Kumar has not paid the annual property tax of over Rs 1.66 crore since 2013-14. The pending property tax has now come up to Rs 9.89 including Rs 92.90 lakh in penalty.
When NMC officials pasted the attachment notice at the mall entrance, the security guards removed it. NMC is now planning to file an FIR against the mall.
After the attachment of Central Mall, the NMC is planning to auction the property to recover the money. Speaking to Nation Next, Suvarna Dakhane, Assistant Commissioner, Laxmi Nagar Zone, said, “We have attached Central Mall to recover the property tax dues. We tried to get in touch with Mr N Kumar but he was unavailable. We even visited his office but we weren’t able to speak to him. Hence, we had to attach the property. We will soon start the process of auction of the property.”
N Kumar has rented different sections of the mall to various companies for their shops. Dakhane told Nation Next that the shop keepers at the mall need not worry as their business will remain unaffected.
Along with Central Mall, four other properties were also attached by NMC on Tuesday.
