HYDERABAD: In a case of extreme negligence, doctors at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NMIS) at Hyderabad left a pair of artery forceps inside a woman’s abdomen during a hernia surgery on November 2, 2018. The matter came to light after the 33-year-old patient Maheshwari Chowdary complained of excruciating pain three months post her surgery (on February 9, 2019). An X-ray report revealed that surgeons had accidently left the forceps inside her abdomen.

Post X-ray reports, Chowdary got admitted for another surgery to get the forceps removed. However, her relatives staged a protest outside the hospital and even lodged a complaint at the Punjagutta Police Station. Terming the incident as ‘unfortunate,’ NIMS Director K Manohar said, “We’ve ordered a three-member team enquiry. We’ll take an action after we get the final report.”
