A message on Whatsapp has been doing rounds lately mentioning that Indian banks will remain close for five days straight from March 29. The message states there will be continuous bank holidays from March 29 to April 2 on the account of Mahavir Jayanti (March 29), Good Friday (March 30), Closing Day (March 31), Sunday (April 1) and Annual closing (April 2). The message requests people to plan their banking in advance.

The above message is a hoax. D Thomas Franco Rajendra Dev, General Secretary, All India Bank Officers Confederation, told IANS, “The banks will work on March 31 (Saturday) and there are no continuous holidays as per messages on the social media.” He informed that the banks will be closed on March 29 and March 30 due to Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday. The banks will work on Saturday (March 31) as it is the fifth Saturday and not the second or fourth one. On April 2, the banks will remain closed for year-end closing work.
