Ola driver arrested for molesting woman passenger in Bengaluru

Bengaluru Police has arrested an Ola driver for molesting and trying to strangulate a woman passenger, who had booked the cab for travelling to the airport on June 1.

The incident took place at around 2 am when the woman booked the Ola ride from her home in Kodihalli to the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru to travel to Mumbai. V Arun (31), the Ola driver, picked up the woman from her house and took a detour on their way to the airport. Arun, then, parked the car in an isolated area and locked the doors. He tried to molest the woman and when she resisted, the driver tried to strangulate her. Arun also tried to click pictures of the woman but was unable to do so as the woman fought back.

The driver later dropped the woman at the airport after which she called her father and informed him about the incident. On her father’s advice, the woman then mailed a complaint to the police commissioner in Mumbai. Based on the complaint and the details provided by the woman the police arrested Arun on the same day. The police has filed a case against Arun under sections 307, 308, 506 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Ola informed in a statement that the driver has been blacklisted and that the company has zero tolerance for such incidents.
