→ More than 1.25 lakh exiting streetlights in the city will now shine brighter as LEDs will be installed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) as part of its Rs 470 crore project to improve the streetlight infrastructure in the city.
→ The process of replacing the old lights with LED lights has already started and as per sources, NMC has already replaced more the 12,000 lights in the city. It is planning to replace all the old lights with LED lights by the next one year.
→ Maharashtra Government has given a nod to NMC to borrow Rs 59 crore from a nationalised bank for the same.
→ The infrastructural upgrade is estimated to save hundreds of crores in the next nine years for NMC from power saving, maintenance and other components.
→ The street lights will reportedly be equipped with automatic switches and automatic dim system.
