More than 90 dogs were found dead with their legs and muzzles ties with strings in Buldhana. The carcasses of the dogs were found scattered at various places on Girda-Savaldabara Road in a forest area on Thursday evening.
Police came across more than 100 dogs, who were thrown on the road at five different locations. Out of the 100, 90 dogs were found dead while rest were found to be alive. It is suspected that the stray dogs were picked up from the city limits, killed, and their carcasses dumped in the forest area.
As soon as officials of police and forest departments found some dogs, who were were alive, they immediately freed them.
After a forest guard lodged a complaint, a case was registered under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, under Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified killers. However, the exact cause of the death of the dogs could be known only after getting the postmortem report.
