The set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious film project – Padmavati – was vandalized and set on fire by around 40-50 unidentified men in Kolhapur on Tuesday night. While there were no injuries and everybody is safe, the set has been completely destroyed.

This is the second time Padmavati, a film based on the life of the legendary 14th century queen Padmavati, has come under attack. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles. In January 2017, Bhansali along with his crew was attacked during the shooting of the film at Jaigarh Fort, Rajasthan by activists of the Karni Sena. The activists claimed that the film was defaming the queen by depicting that Padmavati (played by Deepika) fell in love with Alauddin Khilji (played by Ranveer) – the second ruler of the Khilji dynasty.

Following the attack, Bhansali shifted to Masau Plateau (20 kms from Kolhapur) for shooting the film. According to the reports, Bhansali is going to file a police complaint soon.
