Pakistan to release Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman as peace gesture

Pakistan will be releasing Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commader Abhinandan Varthaman on Friday (March 1) as a peace gesture. The decision was shared by Pakistani Prime Minister on Thursday in the Parliament in Islamabad. Khan said, “In our desire of peace, I announce that tomorrow, and as a first step to open negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our custody.”

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by Pakistan after his MiG-21 Bison was shot down in Pakistan occupied Kashmir after an engagement with Pakistan Air Force jets violating Indian airspace on Wednesday (Feb 27) morning.
