In a shocking case of suspected honour killing, a 20-year-old unmarried pregnant girl from Telangana was smothered to death by her parents for being in love with a man from another caste and refusing to undergo an abortion.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 7. When the victim was asleep, the parents strangled her to death using a pillow at their residence in Kalukuntla in Jogulamba Gadwal district. The parents then claimed that it was a natural death and that the girl had died of a heart attack.
As per reports, when a police team went to the family’s house after the girl’s death and insisted on a post-mortem after noticing some marks on her body, the parents argued that there was no need to do so. However, the village secretary, who suspected the death of the young girl, a college student, as foul play, insisted on an investigation, which later revealed the real details about the death.
As per the police, the woman, who was the youngest of the three daughters, had refused to undergo abortion. She had fallen in love with a man while pursuing her degree course in Kurnool district in neighboring Andhra Pradesh. She informed her parents about it after she came to know about her pregnancy during a medical examination.
The parents pressurized her for an abortion fearing that their daughter may elope with her lover if the pregnancy is not aborted. The girl initially agreed but later declined following which the parents decided to kill her. The parents have reportedly confessed about murdering their daughter.
