Screen grabs from the video

Wildlife lovers, conservationists and enthusiasts in Vidarbha are horrified to see a video captured by a traveler of a full-grown tiger, identified as T1 from Pench, crossing highway NH-7 near Chorbahuli after jumping the crash barrier and crossing over to the other side. The video has since gone viral on social media.

The danger to the life of the tigers and other animals is real as the flow of traffic on NH-7 is quite heavy. This is the same spot where The Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, suggested a 2,000 metre underpass to enable animals to cross over to the Mansinghdeo forests. However the underpass was reduced to a mere 750 metres. NH-7 passes through dense forests near the Mansinghdeo reserve forest posing danger to wild animals crossing it in the absence of a long underpass.

The danger to the life of tigers in the region is a major issue that needs to be taken up on priority by the wildlife authorities. The loss of as many as 7 tigers in just 12 days in Maharashtra is a message that is loud and clear.
