If sources are to be believed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Nagpur in the first week of March for the inauguration of the two stretches of Nagpur Metro Rail. Nagpur Metro is working on war footing to make two stretches completely operational from March. The two routes, which would be a total stretch of 19 kms, would commence from Khapri to Sitabuldi Munje Square (13 kms) and between Lokmanya Nagar to Subhash Nagar (6 kms).
Earlier, Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maha Metro, had claimed that Nagpur Metro rail is soon going to make two of its routes operational by February end. Soon the NMC said that it would not be possible to make the two stretches operational by February end.
Dixit had also said that eight metro stations (Khapri, New Airport, Airport, South, Airport, Jaiprakash Nagar, Sitabuldi, Lokmanya Nagar and Subhash Nagar) would be operational on both the routes. The fare of the Metro (decided by the state government) would be Rs 30 from Sitabuldi to Khapri and Rs 23 from Lokmanya Nagar to Subhash Nagar.
A highly placed official in Nagpur Municipal Corporation told Nation Next that PM Modi might visit Nagpur during the same time. Having said that, he said that so far there’s no official confirmation on the same.
When Nation Next spoke to BJP MLA from South Nagpur Sudhakar Kohale about PM Modi’s visit to Nagpur, he said, “We’re yet to receive an official confirmation vis-à-vis his visit to Nagpur. We’ve asked for his time, as we want to him to address a gathering for the same in the city. However we can’t deny the possibility of he visiting the city.”
