The owners of the popular Puransingh Dhaba (on NH6, Wardha Road, Nagpur), on Friday night, were booked by police for selling and serving liquor illegally. The raid was carried out by the detection squad of Beltarodi police (led by PSI Sandeep Agarkar) following directives from DCP (Zone IV) Nilesh Bharne.
The police carried out the raid on the basis of a tip-off about the illegal selling and serving of liquor at the eating place. Post the raid, the police booked owners of Puransingh Dhaba – Anjesh Pyarelal Sakhar (23) and Pyarelal Sadaram Sakhare (54) – both residents of Somalwada, Nagpur. The father son duo would sell liquor at a higher price than the MRP through their employee Aadesh Ishwar Shende (30).
The cops recovered 40 bottles of country liquor from the dhaba and liquor worth Rs 44,760 from a Honda Activa two-wheeler (MH-31 EL 0932). The three accused have been booked under section 65 (e) of the Bombay Prohitbition Act, 1949, (Maharashtra).
It is well-known fact that most restaurants on Wardha Road are involved in selling and serving liquor illegally i.e. without a license. While the police is always on its toes to stop this illegal menace, it has recently been conducting such raids often. Raids have been conducted on dhabas like Shere Punjab, Mahesh Dhaba, among others. Most of these dhabas are visited by youngsters in large numbers.
