Prithvi Shaw named India’s captain for Under-19 World Cup

Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw would be leading India in the upcoming Under-19 World Cup, which would be held in New Zealand from January 13, 2018. Punjab’s Shubman Gill, who was the top scorer in the Youth ODI series in England in the early 2017 (at an average of 92.66), has been titled to be Shaw’s deputy.

The five member squad, that includes Haryana’s Himanshu Rana and Assam’s Riyan Parag with five stand-by players, are set to participate in a preparatory camp in Bengaluru from December 8 to 22 this year. Shaw is the second highest scorer this season with 521 runs at an average of 57.88. Apart from Shaw, Ishan Porel from West Bengal has bagged 10 wickets in two matches. Both the players have been allowed to play for their respective sides in the quarter-finals, which would start from December 7. Shaw and Porel are expected to join the camp on December 12.

Standby players include: Om Bhosle, Rahul Chahar, Ninad Rathva, Urvil Patel, and Aditya Thakare.
