Punjab State Women Commission has demanded action against rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh for allegedly using ‘vulgar lyrics’ in his song – Makhna.

Taking suo moto cognizance, Manisha Gulati, the chairperson of the women’s panel, has written to the State Home Secretary, Punjab Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police (Crime), and has demanded action against the rapper.

Gulati, while speaking to ANI said, “Honey Singh has used extremely vulgar language in his song. The words used are absolutely irreverent for a woman that’s why we want strict action against Honey Singh and Bhushan Kumar (Managing Director of T-Series).”

Gulati added, “This is also to set a benchmark so that from now onwards singers or songwriters don’t make songs that disrespect women. The Central government and the Censor board should also intervene and set some kind of bar for musicians.”

While demanding action against Honey Singh, Gulati pointed out lyrics such as ‘Mein hoon womaniser’ and ‘Silicon wali ladki ko mein pakadta nahi’ in the song ‘Makhna.’ The song, which was released in December 2018, has more than 209 million views on YouTube.
