Congress President Rahul Gandhi will arrive in a special aircraft at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur on June 13 at around 10.30 am. The Congress president, will then, board a helicopter and head towards Nanded village in Chandrapur district to meet the family members of HMT rice innovator Dadaji Khobragade, who passed away on June 3 in Gadchiroli. Gandhi will return from Nanded to Nagpur the same day and then will fly back to New Delhi, where he is scheduled to host an iftar party for top politicians.
Dalit revolutionary farmer and innovator Dadaji Khobragade is credited with developing the now famous HMT rice. Khobragade, through HMT rice, revolutionized paddy farming in Chandrapur district. In spite of being well-known as the inventor of HMT rice, Khobragade spent most of his life through limited means. When he fell ill last month, he could not even afford proper medical treatment. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, had then, sanctioned 2.5 lakhs from CM relief fund, which is used for financial assistance to the economically weaker citizens for treatment of some of the major diseases. Unfortunately, Khobragade passed away at Search Hospital in Gadchiroli.
As per a report in a leading daily, ever since the news of Gandhi’s plan to visit Khobragade household broke, several BJP leaders including Hansraj Ahir (Minister of State for Home Affairs) and Kiritkumar Bhangadia (MLA from Chimur in Chandrapur district) have visited the Khobragade family. Ahir and Bhangadia have reportedly promised them to make a memorial gate and a hospital in the memory of Dadaji Khobragade.
