A 23-year-old boy, a Central Railway employee, committed suicide in the early hours of Saturday morning by jumping into Futala Lake in Nagpur. The boy has been identified as Mukesh Chauhan, a resident of Shatabdi Chowk. His body was found in the lake on Sunday morning.

On Saturday morning at around 5:30 am, Chauhan had asked one of his friends to take him to Futala Lake to meet another friend. Once Chauhan and his friend (who took him to Futala) were at the lake, Chauhan asked his friend to leave telling him that he will be back soon.

A while after the friend left, Chauhan texted him saying that he didn’t want to meet anybody but had come to Futala Lake to end his life. The friend panicked and informed other friends and relatives of Chauhan. When nobody could contact Chauhan on his cellphone, Ajni Police was informed. Divers were called in and they searched the lake for Chauhan’s body, which was not found on Saturday. Meanwhile, Chauhan’s friends, thinking that he might not have jumped in the lake and be still alive, starting searching for him at places, which Chauhan would often visit.
