A look at 311-yr-old antique Mahalaxmi idols at Raje Mudhoji Bhonsle’s home in Nagpur

    Nagpur’s Bhonsle family is one of the few families in the city who celebrate festivities with great fervour and devotion by adhering to their traditional rituals. The aura of Bhonsle residence in Mahal is full of divinity and positivity during the on-going Mahalaxmi festival. Speaking about the same, the descendant of the royal family, Raje Mudhoji Bhonsle tells Nation Next, “These silver Mahalaxmi idols were installed by Raja Raghuji Bhonsle-I in our home during 1708. These are almost 311-year-old idols, which we have preserved.”

    He added, “We use our centuries old traditional jewellery that include gold mohan maal, ruby-emerald studded karna phool, diamond studded patlis, surya phool etc.”

    Sharing with us the fine details of the breathtakingly beautiful saris the beautiful idols adorn, Bhonsle says, “The decades old antique shalus have pure silver and gold zari embroidered on it.”
