‘Ramayan’ becomes World’s most viewed TV show, beats ‘GOT’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Ramayan, which is being re-telecasted on DD National, has become world’s most viewed TV show beating  ‘GOT’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ in terms of viewership.

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, which is being re-telecasted on DD National, has become the world’s most viewed TV show beating  ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ in terms of viewership. While Game of Thrones finale, telecasted in May 2019 was watched by 19.3 million people, The Big Bang Theory finale was watched by roughly 18 million people.

As per DD National, 77 million (7.7 crore) people across the world watched ‘Ramayan’ on April 16. DD National tweeted a small video stating that same. DD National wrote, “Thanks to all our viewers!! #RAMAYAN- WORLD RECORD!! Highest Viewed Entertainment Program Globally.”

33 years after it was first aired, DD National started to re-telecast Ramayan in March, 2020, soon after a nationwide lockdown was imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The TV series, written, produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar features Arun Govil as Lord Rama, Dipika Chikhlia Topiwala as Goddess Sita and Sunil Lahri as Lord Lakshman. The series also stars well-known actors like Lalita Pawar, Arvind Trivedi and Dara Singh.
