Psychworks clinic in collaboration with JCI Nagpur Feme and PG Department of Human Development of LAD College recently organized a block and screen printing workshop to empower women inmates of Regional Mental Hospital of Nagpur.
During the workshop, the patients were taught block and screen Printing by Dr Harsha Jharia (Coordinator, PG courses in Fashion Design, LAD College) and students of PG dept of Human development of LAD College. With the help of the workshop, the female patients made different articles by block and screen printing on cards, dupattas, table cloths and bed sheets.
Alvira Diwan, who’s a clinical psychologist and has worked with the patients and has organized several events for their recreation and rehabilitation, said, “Due to their illness the patients lack skills, which they can gain by training. Thus planning a workshop like this one was an easy decision for me because I am aware of the calibre they have. I’m happy that the patients participated in the workshop with immense enthusiasm for learning something new.”
The staff of the hospital including the caretakers, nurses, occupational therapists and psychiatrists were also present during the workshop. Medical Superintendent Dr Madhuri Thorat and Deputy Superintendent Dr Praveen Navkhare willingly approved of the noble cause. JCI members along with the President Uzma Kausar and immediate past president Sana Ganiya Khan also participated in the event.
