Panic gripped Nagpur after rumours of a leopard being sighted at Friends Colony, Katol Road on Tuesday started doing rounds. A photo of a leopard eyeing a cow went viral and soon, panic spread across city. When Nation Next spoke to forest official Kundan Hate about the same, he said, “Few rumours cropped up especially in KT Nagar that a leopard was sighted in Nagpur. Previously, leopards have been sighted at Friends Colony due to its proximity to Gorewada Zoo but this time, when our team conducted a search, it couldn’t find any evidence or traces.”

Hate further said, “I request people not to spread such unverified news. If somebody actually spotted a leopard, instead of making it viral on WhatsApp, please approach the forest department first. We spoke to many residents of the same colony but nobody spotted any leopard. Already we’re in a tensed situation; please co-operate.”
