Very few know that former Mr Gay World participant and the flag bearer of LGBTQ community in India Sushant Divgikar is a phenomenal singer. It is his passion for singing, which has now made him the first openly gay participant on the mainstream singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, which is watched by millions at home across India.

On Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Sushant will be performing as his alter ego – Rani-Ko-He-Nur. In fact, even during his recent visit to Nagpur for promoting the show, Sushant was dressed as his alter ego. While promoting the show in Nagpur, Sushant spoke about his passion for music, his alter ego Rani-Ko-He-Nur and spoke as to how he would like to change things with his singing talent.

Speaking about being a part of the singing reality show, Sushant Divgikar said, “I’m very excited to a part of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and couldn’t think of a platform as revered as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to showcase my singing talent and bring drag as a performing art into mainstream through my alter ego Rani-Ko-HE-Nur. There hasn’t been a gay contestant on a singing reality show on national television before me because it hasn’t been introduced in mainstream entertainment. With the help of Sushant’s voice, I aspire to put Rani in the forefront.”

Sushant, while speaking about his passion for music, added, “I have realized that music makes me happy and I feel no shame in admitting that I sing for applause. Winning the show is secondary, all I want to win is people’s hearts with my talent. It’s normal to have preconceived notions about a certain section of people, but one can change minds with talent.”

The past few episodes of the current season of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, which started on October 13, saw an array of supremely talented singers raising the bar of entertainment with their talent. Divgikar as Rani-Ko-He-Nur fascinated everyone as he switched between male and female voices.
